Botulinum toxin (botox)
Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces the signal from nerve to muscle in the area where it is applied. As the facial expression muscles contract less, the appearance of the lines these muscles create is reduced. The effect is reversible and wears off on its own over time.
Treatment areas
Forehead, between the brows, corners of the eyes
Horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines between the brows and crow's feet at the corners of the eyes. At the clinic these are planned together as the "3 areas".
Teeth clenching (masseter)
Reduces the overactivity of the masseter (chewing muscle) when it has enlarged due to teeth clenching or grinding (bruxism).
Neck lines
Horizontal neck lines and prominent platysmal bands (vertical neck muscle bands).
Other areas
Brow lift, corners of the mouth, lines above the upper lip, gummy smile, and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Suitability is decided at the examination.
How is the treatment done?
At the examination your medical history is taken; you will always be asked about pregnancy and breastfeeding. Once a decision is made, the treatment is explained and your consent is obtained.
Numbing starts at your appointment time: a topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area and left for about 30 minutes. The doctor then administers small doses with a fine needle at the planned points. For expression lines, the treatment takes about 5 minutes.
After the treatment
- You can return to your daily life straight away.
- For the first 1–2 hours, do not wash the area, apply make-up or massage it; avoid bending over and lying down.
- The effect starts around day 3; the full effect is seen on days 7–10.
- The follow-up appointment takes place within 30 days of the treatment; after this period no top-up can be done.
Before you come for the treatment
- If you take blood-thinning medication, tell us at the examination. Do not stop your medication without consulting your doctor.
- Stop products that can thin the blood, such as green tea, 1 week beforehand.
- Do not drink alcohol the day before the treatment.
- Do not wear make-up on the area on the day of the treatment.
- For masseter treatment, we kindly ask our male patients to come clean-shaven.
The treatment is not performed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How long does the effect last?
It varies from person to person, but on average 5–6 months. Your doctor will give you detailed information at the examination.
Does the treatment hurt?
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied before the treatment. Most people say they feel only a slight stinging.
Will it create an unnatural expression?
The dose and injection points are planned according to your face and your expectations. The aim is not to stop facial expressions completely but to reduce the appearance created by the lines. If needed, a top-up is done at the follow-up appointment.
